More about this Workshop:

This workshop will be lecture, hands on, and visual demonstrations

We will cover:

  • Safety first: approaching animals and reading their body language
  • Posing animals (and their humans)
  • Recommended equipment for Nikon and Canon users
  • Photographing animals outside
  • Photographing animals in a studio setting
  • Props
  • Giving back: Photographing rescue animals
  • Editing out leashes and other distracting items that are unavoidable in camera
  • Curating your images, be your worst critic

There will be animals on both days who I will be photographing as a demo. Participants will be able to shoot the animals we photograph OUTSIDE.  The studio work will be a demo of me shooting, explaining and
showing what I am doing (I will be shooting tethered to a computer
screen/projector).

This is a small student to teacher ratio class with a lot of personal attention for the students, which Amy finds is the best way to learn photography.

*As an added bonus: All students will be invited to join a private Facebook Group for continued support and growth.

Participants should have a basic understanding of aperture, shutter speed, ISO and how to use these together to get correct exposures in Manual Mode and to control your depth of field. *If someone feels they need a refresher or an hour lesson on this I will be holding a one hour class on these topics a couple weeks before the workshop for $60 per person.

TESTIMONIAL:

"I recently purchased my first DSLR camera and was a bit intimidated with all the buttons and settings. Admittedly I felt overwhelmed. For some time I have been an admirer of Amy Shutt's work because I love taking photos of animals. When I saw that she was offering a course on digital photography I jumped at the chance to learn from her.

I cannot tell you how wonderful an experience it has been. Amy tailored the class to whatever camera, lenses, and editing software that we each had. She also helped explain and encourage us dependent on our interests and skill level. She always has new ideas and reference materials to share with us as a group or individually.

She spent the first few classes showing us how our camera's worked and gave us homework to help us learn how to use it. The second half of the course mainly consisted of how to use your editing software. I learned more in this 6 weeks course than I probably would have learned in a year or more of playing around myself. We took two field trips locally. They were both fun, informative and inspiring. It has been a great opportunity for me to express myself artistically. It was wonderful being around other artists and sharing our love of photography with one another and the excitement when one of us got an amazing shot or discovered a new trick. I feel I have made some new friends and we will keep in touch and grow and support one another."
